TJ Prep Hub

Hey Abhinav! Sijan here. I built this hub to keep everything you need for TJHSST prep in one place - the requirements, practice problems, and a few study tools. You have what it takes. Let's go get that spot.

You've got this

Admission Requirements & Milestones

Minimum 3.5 GPA

Unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher in core subjects (English, math, science, social studies) across 7th grade and the first quarter of 8th grade.

Honors Algebra 1 by 8th Grade

Must complete or be enrolled in Honors Algebra 1 by the end of 8th grade. This is a key academic prerequisite for the TJHSST application.

IAAT - Target 91st Percentile

The Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test is 60 questions in 40 minutes. Aim for 43-45 correct answers to reach the 91st percentile. The test covers pre-algebraic number skills, interpreting mathematical information, and algebraic concepts.

The IAAT is your biggest lever. With focused practice, improving from 30 to 45 correct answers is absolutely doable in a few months.

Focus on the IAAT

The IAAT is the most improvable part of your application. Practice daily with timed 40-minute sessions to build speed.

Pace yourself: 40 seconds per question

With 60 questions in 40 minutes, you have about 40 seconds per question. If stuck, flag it, move on, and come back.

Master pre-algebra fundamentals

The IAAT tests pre-algebraic skills: number operations, interpreting data, and algebraic concepts. Drill these areas.

Show your work on paper

Even though it's multiple choice, writing steps down reduces careless errors. Use scratch paper like you would on test day.

Review every mistake

After each practice session, revisit every wrong answer. Understanding why you got it wrong is how you improve.

Don't forget the GPA

Keep grades above 3.5 in every core class. A strong report card backs up your test score.
